A lot is made of being “thrown to the wolves” which means to betray someone by throwing them into danger, or neglect, that they are not expected to survive. Or to ever recover fully from.
But many of us grew up with the wolves, it's the first thing we were introduced to.. so we don't fear it, we make peace with it, learn to overcome, adapt to the dangers within those circumstances.
You can never throw someone to the wolves if the wolves come when they call.
